Visit to Magic Wok for Filipino Food

I had a craving for Filipino Food and went to this place near me that supposedly had it and Chinese Food. I usually am weary of small restaurants with large menus because you cannot trust the quality and freshness. But this place was great with an extensive Filipino and Chinese menu. I got the Pork Chop Silog and an order of 10 lumpia rolls. The Pork Chop Silog is a Pork Chop served with 2 eggs and garlic fried rice. Usually silogs (rice & egg combos) are for breakfast but Magic Wok serves this all day. I also got the lumpia to try it out. Lumpia are like thin, fried, filipino egg roll sticks with meat in them. All was good and too much food for me.

Trash Bag Bears from Japan

Who doesn't want Trash Bags in the shape of Teddy Bears? Only from the minds of Japan. How cute! I think you can get them here.

Homemade Tea

If you aren't familiar with my blog here... I am a frequent patron (test subject) of my local Acupuncture school. I'm just trying it out to see what it's all about (that rhymed). Well, for the first time, I tried some herbs as recommended by my intern doc. I was given a bag of goodies and instructions on preparing it. I guess you turn it into a tea drink. If you look at the pic above: it looks like pine cones, seeds, tree branches, tree bark, berries and cut up logs. Can I at least have some dried apple in there? Well after boiling it for a while and seemingly steeping the flavors out, I strained the water (which looked like unfiltered apple cider) and gave it a little taste. I guess I was expecting bland tea but what I got was the most bitter, foul tasting sh*t you can imagine mixed with dirt taste. And with a lingering aftertaste of vulcanizing rubber in my mouth.

Ugh, I can still taste it. I was like there is no way I can drink this... like this. I thought to myself... dude, I'm adding brown sugar or something. But instead I added a bit of water and some peach juice I had from Trader Joes. Still rubbery and bitter but I knocked the drink down quick having the liquid avoid my tongue. It made me feel sick later. I had a headache and had to go to the bathroom. When I later cleaned the pot out, it looked like I just cleaned out the rain gutter.

Del Freestyles on Twitter

More praises to Twitter. Documented here, I caught Del the Funky Homosapian a.k.a. Deltron 3030 doing a freestyle on Twitter. Purty cool. If you ain't on Twitter yet, you're too late, foo! Now I need to hear the beat.

Bolani and Piroshky

Took a walk to my local Farmer's Market on Saturday. This is a sampling of my day's bounty. I got some mixed salad greens with edible flowers. I think they are 3 bucks for 1/2 a pound of mix. Without the edible flowers it's cheaper so I got 'em cuz they must be expensive for a reason.

Then I got a spinach bolani. Bolani is a thin crust stuffed flatbread originating from Afghanistan. The guy I got it from was also selling a potato bolani which I will probably get next time. He was a nice guy and offered me a bunch of bolani samples with sauces he was selling. That pic is only a small piece of what you get. When you get the bolani, it is originally the size of 2 big a folded tortillas.

And I got a beef piroshsky. A piroshsky is defined as like a Russian stuffed pastry. Looks more like a big fried donut. The beef was chopped fine, not ground beef like i thought. It was good. I put some greek sour cream on it to add some acid to the friedness. I also got some cheese/artichoke dip and some sun-dried tomato hummus from these vendors. Kinda felt healthy eating from the Farmer's Market. I'll see you there next week.

Odwalla Vanilla Protein Monster

Boring blog day so I gotta run downstairs to the cafeteria and see what I can review. Haha. No, but I was thirsty and got an Odwalla Vanilla Protein Monster. $4 bucks (the price of a small meal at McDonald's) but as I tell the cashier, "I'm worth it!" I previously tried their chocolate one. This Vanilla Protein Monster tastes like the super sweetest soy milk. And the sweet is cane sugary tasting. Didn't taste the vanilla with all that sweetness at first but in it's there. Hopefully I'm getting some health outta it.

Twitter Search is FUN!

I want to tell people to get with Twitter but even I barely understand its purpose. But I did try out their Twitter search. It is kinda cool to get in on real-time conversations based on keywords. For instance, I searched out "Fry's" as in Fry's Electronics. And you can see all the people who are on Twitter talking about Fry's. I know this company well so.. Purty funny. Ah, something to do when you're bored.
